I'm really sorry to hear about the mishaps on your brand new trailer! When reading through your descriptions the first thing that comes to my mind is the possibility that there's an exposed wire somewhere along the trailer that's making contact with the frame. This is essentially powering the frame so that when you attach the ground cable it's creating those sparks (which is not normal).

I would first start by turning your running lights on and using a circuit tester # PTW2992 check which wire (black or white) is your power. From my experience you can't always just go off of the standard wire color for power/negative as manufacturers love to complicate things. I do not recommend enlarging the holes to move the pin box up higher since it takes a lot of pressure and will most certainly move up when you hit a rough patch of road and end up pinching the trim. You would need to cut out the trim and walls around the pin box to allow for the pin box to go higher or try to offset the increased height. What you're saying leads me to believe that the water line running to the toilet may branch off of the hot water line. This is not correct but sadly isn't uncommon. I discovered when remodeling one of the bathrooms in my own home that the builder had the water line for the toilet connected to the hot line instead of the cold.
